Killearn is a peaceful, very picturesque village in west central Scotland, nestling at the foot of the scenic Campsie Fells and close to beautiful Loch Lomond and the bustling city of Glasgow. This delightful village has been well protected over the years from the ravages of modern development. It is a popular residence for commuters who work in Glasgow by day but prefer a rural setting by night. A thirty minute drive, on a good day, will comfortably get you to the city centre.
The Black Bull is located in the centre of Killearn, right opposite the striking 31 metre high Buchanan Monument, a memorial to the 16th century scholar, poet, historian, teacher and politican George Buchanan, who was born in the village in 1506. There are a few interesting and quirky local shops and places of interest to explore and just outside the village is Glengoyne Distillery, the most southerly highland malt distillery in Scotland.
But come inside the Black Bull and the warm, stylish décor, leather sofas and coal fires offer a modern take on a Scottish country inn. A genuinely friendly welcome awaits (especially from dogs Arhcie and Penny!) and with superior cooking ranging from tasty homemade soups and terrines through to mouthwatering puddings and desserts, it’s no wonder people are prepared to travel quite a distance to come here for lunch, afternoon tea or dinner.
