area attractions

Killearn is a great centre for motoring around the Trossachs, Loch Katrine and particularly handy for Loch Lomond. This features Loch Lomond Shores visitor centre, the National Park for nature walks and cycling as well as boat trips and fishing on the loch. If romantic Scottish castles are what you are looking for, then Buchanan Castle, Culcreuch Castle, Doune Castle and Balloch Castle are all close at hand. And the city of Glasgow and Stirling are both less than half an hour away.

For places to visit not far from Killearn, see:

  • Balloch Country Park and Castle
  • Buchanan Castle
  • Culcreuch Castle
  • Doune Castle
  • Dumbarton Castle
  • Kilbryde Castle
  • Loch Katrine
  • Loch Lomond Shores
  • Stirling Castle
  • The Trossachs

Loch Lomond presents the perfect holiday location, set amidst one of Scotland’s most idyllic and unspoilt areas with the largest expanse of fresh water in Britain and the backdrop of the mountains looming beyond. It is also ideally situated for touring within Scotland with The Highlands to the north of the Loch, the West Coast and Islands a short drive away and Central Scotland, Glasgow and Edinburgh to the east.

Loch Lomond must be the world’s most famous Loch and has been much written about, both in song and verse. The area is renowned for its beauty and tranquility and offers picture postcard views around every corner. And along with the beautiful Trossachs, the Loch Lomond area is Scotland’s first designated National Park, known as Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park

The National Park feels worlds apart from the bustle of city life. Yet it’s less than an hour from Glasgow and not much more from Edinburgh.

Glengoyne Distillery
We are very proud of our local Scotch single malt whisky distillery, Glengoyne Distillery.

The distillery itself is like a picture postcard of Scotland. And its proximity to Loch Lomond gives it a familiarity for an international audience. Who wouldn't want to sample the spirit of the place?

You are most welcome all year round to visit 'Scotland's Most Beautiful Distillery' to see the production process and learn how Glengoyne Single Highland Malt Whisky is made.

The Glengoyne tour and VIP tours leave from the Reception room overlooking the beautiful waterfall and glen every hour and no prior booking is required for groups of l0 or less. With advanced notice you can indulge in our nosing and tasting sessions, warehouse visits, Master Blender sessions (including creating your own whisky) and much more.

Located inside the oldest warehouse on site, dating back to 1833, the Slainte Mhath Shop retains the atmosphere and charm of the old days. Feast your eyes on the 'Whisky Wall,' which includes not just our core range of 10, 17 and 21 Years Old Single Highland Malt Scotch Whiskies but also wonderful limited edition Single Casks and Special Vintages. Award winning whiskies sit side by side with glassware and crystal presentation sets, clothing, foods, confectionery and preserves, books and an eclectic range of collectables.
